Dawki also known as Dauki, is a town located in west Jaintia Hills district of Meghalaya, India. This town is a must visit destination for travelers and nature lovers. Dawki is located on the border between India and Bangladesh. It is really hard to ignore the crystal clear water of the Umngot River of this town.

A small border town in the Jaintia Hills, Dawki and its famed river Umngot or the Dwaki River is a must-visit if in Meghalaya. Sandwiched between India and Bangladesh, Dawki is a major centre of trade between India and Bangladesh. The small city, besides being a trade hub is also famous for its tourism scene, with many people flocking to the town in order experience a boat ride in its famed Umngot River and enjoy the nearby sights and sounds.

The city becomes a hotbed of tourist activities especially during the spring months as it hosts the boat riding competition on the Umngot River. The surrounding greenery, the cold water of the river and the beautiful suspension bridge on the River Umngot make Dawki a place worth a visit.

Boating at the Umngot river is a must if you are at Dawki.

Shillong is known as the Rock capital of the country and the night life in this tourist center is pretty amazing with many night clubs, bars and restaurants serving music and booze.

Try out the delightful Meghalayan delicacies such as Jadoh, Dohneiihong, Makham-Bitchi and Jhur Sideh. Also, taste the sweets and oranges of Dawki it is quite famous for them.

  • Air: Nearest airport is at Guwahati which has direct flights to all other major cities of the country. Guwahati is about 200 km from Dawki and can be reached by hiring a cab. Alternatively, there is a helicopter service from Guwahati till Shillong from where one can reach Dawki by road.
  • Rail: Nearest rail head is at Guwahati from where one can either hire a cab or catch public or private buses either direct till Dawki or till Shillong.
  • Road: Dawki is just 90 km from Shillong and the route passes through beautiful gorges, deep forests and rivulets. It is connected by state buses as well as some private buses to Shillong and Guwahati. One can easily get a bus for Dawki from Bada Bazaar in Shillong or near Guwahati Railway Station in Guwahati.
