Spinach And Ricotta Dumplings Recipe In Cheese Sauce is a perfect casserole recipe that can be prepared for easily for the dinner parties or family get togethers. The cheese sauce is a blend of flavors from Parmesan cheese and milk. The spinach and ricotta balls are soft and flavorful that melts in mouth when combined together.


  • 250 grams Spinach , roughly chopped
  • 1/4 cup Ricotta Cheese , or crumbled paneer
  • 1 cup Pecorino Romano Cheese , or any other hard cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon Cumin powder (Jeera) , roasted
  • 1/4 cup All Purpose Flour (Maida) , plus more for rolling
  • 2 cloves Garlic , grated
  • 2 – 3 sprig Chives , finely chopped
  • 1/4 teaspoon Lemon zest , grated
  • Salt and Pepper , to taste
  • 1 pinch Nutmeg
  • Salt and Pepper , to taste
  • 2 tablespoon Butter (unsalted)
  • 1 tablespoon All Purpose Flour (Maida)
  • 1 cup Milk
  • 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese , grated

How to make Spinach And Ricotta Dumplings In Cheese Sauce

  1. To begin making Spinach And Ricotta Dumplings Recipe In Cheese Sauce we will first proceed to make the spinach ricotta balls.
  2. In a food processor, add the spinach and pulse it to chop it fine. Add the ricotta cheese, Romano cheese, flour, chives, cumin powder, lemon zest, grated garlic, salt, nutmeg and pepper, and pulse to combine well to form a moist dough.
  3. Place the spinach ricotta in a large bowl, using oiled hands, divide the dumpling dough into small bite size portions. 
  4. Place water in a large saucepan  and bring it to boil. Add the spinach ricotta dumplings into the boiling water and allow it to cook. Once you notice the dumplings rise up to the top, allow it to cook for a few more seconds in the roaring water and remove. Use a slotted spoon and remove the spinach dumplings and keep it aside on a serving dish.
  5. The next step is to make the cheese sauce of the Spinach Ricotta Dumplings.
  6. To do this, melt the butter in a saucepan  over medium heat. Whisk in the flour to form a creamy paste. Slowly add the milk while stirring continuously and avoid any lump formation. Make sure the flour is well dissolved into the mixture.
  7. Once the sauce begins to boil and thickens, add the grated Parmesan cheese and stir to combine. Once the sauce is cooked completely, turn off the heat and keep the sauce aside. Check the salt and spices and adjust to suit your taste.
  8. Pour the creamy white sauce over the dumplings. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
