Aloo Dal Pakoda Recipe

Craving for some crispy pakodas? So, why waste your time scrolling through those food apps, when you can make yourself a plate full of crispy pakodas at home that too without putting in much efforts. Pakodas are prepared in various styles in India but this Aloo and Dal pakoda recipe is a little different from others. This combination of Potato and Moong Dal makes for a tempting deep fried snack, which one can relish anytime with tea. This popular vegetarian snack is cooked in almost every household and is served with mint or tamarind chutneys. The pakoda batter is prepared by combining chopped onions, cumin seeds and coriander leaves in it. Very easy to prepare at home, you can also serve this to your guests the next time they arrive at your house

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cup green moong dal
  • 2 onion
  • 2 teaspoon ginger
  • 1 teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1 pinches baking soda
  • 1 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 potato
  • 4 green chilli
  • 2 teaspoon coriander leaves
  • 1 pinch asafoetida
  • salt as required
  • 1 cup gram flour (besan)

How to make Aloo Dal Pakoda

  • Step 1. Soak the dal and make a paste. To make this easy recipe, soak moong dal in a bowl full of water for 3-4 hours. Then, drain the water, and put this into a blender along with green chilies, coriander leaves, salt, ginger and asafoetida in order to have a thick paste.
  • Step 2. Make the batter. In the meantime, boil the potatoes in a separate pan filled with water over medium flame. Once boiled well, mash them in a separate bowl with chopped onions and mix them with gram flour. Next add the moong dal paste and using the cut and fold method, make a slight thick batter.
  • Step 3 Heat a pan and add oil. Place a large pan over medium flame and heat oil. Once the oil is hot enough, slowly leave the pakoda batter from sides using a spoon. Then deep fry the pakodas and repeat the same with rest of the batter. Fry the pakodas till they turn golden in color. Transfer them to a plate with tissue papers in order to soak up the excess oil.
  • Step 4. Serve hot with chutney or dips! Your Aloo Dal Pakoda is now ready. Garnish it with green chilies and serve it with mint or tamarind chutney and enjoy it’s crisp bites.
Tips
  1. You can also add some sooji to the pakoda batter to give it a crunchy texture.
  2. Make sure the oil is hot, the add pour the batter with spoon else it will absorb more oil.
  3. To make it more delicious you can add some red chilli powder and a dash of garam masala.
  4. Sprinkle some chaat masala to amp up your experience.
